Met Station SelectionIn order to determine which Met stations are to be used within the interpolation stage a Matlab script was to be developed. The script selected relevant data based on time resolution and duration through calculating the start and end date together with the number of measurements each MET station has recorded for global solar radiation. Thereafter a timeline graph, Figure 1, was created to determine what Met station will be incorporated into the HRS model.
The criteria used to select the appropriate stations excluded geographic clustering of stations as kriging accounts for this. The determining factors included >1 year of data or the station is still active in recording global solar radiation. Thereafter a map of the UK was generated on Matlab using NGA (1994) coastline data that was manually altered to exclude France and the Republic of Ireland in order to create the following plot of met stations on the UK.
