Aims and ObjectivesThe aim of this thesis is to produce a hindcast time series of global solar radiation, at a time series resolution of 1 hour, over a time period of 1996-2012 for the UK that can be used to understand the variability of solar resource. The main tool for this purpose is the use of the high-level programming language and interactive environment MATLAB. To achieve the aims of this project, a number of objectives were considered necessary:

Having outlined the aims and objectives for this project, a gantt chart was created to manage the project's schedule, as illustrated below (click to enlarge the image). The timeline incorporated flexibility and at present the project appears to be ahead of schedule.
Regular communication and meetings with the Project Supervisor ensured that any issues were highlighted as soon as possible. This was essential in deciding the aims of the project. Over the course of the project it became apparent that the initial objectives were achievable and future work could be performed.
Throughout the project, a log book was kept recording all work that was performed during the project. This made it simple to locate and review work that had been conducted at earlier stages.
